Clinical Placements
Eastern Health offers a wide variety of clinical placement experiences to Pre-Registration (Undergraduate) Nursing and Midwifery students.F
For nursing students placements may include: Acute; Specialty areas; Rehabilitation; Palliative Care; Community and Mental Health. Students should ask their Higher Educational Provider (Tertiary) or Vocational Education Provider for more information.
For midwifery students placements may include: antenatal clinic; foetal monitoring; birth suite; post natal; lactation clinic; special care nursery and domiciliary or Mid-care.

Fellowship Programs
The Eastern Health Nursing and Midwifery Fellowship programs are perfect for student nurses and midwives who would enjoy a close network of like-minded peers, supportive clinical supervision and a familiarity with one health service promoting consistency, confidence and a sense of belonging. We offer clinical-only and collaborative learning model Fellowship programs with Deakin University, Monash University and Swinburne University of Technology.
Our Clinical –Only Fellowship program offers students a broad and well-rounded placement experience which is tailored to each individual student. All placements are held at Eastern Health sites across various settings and sites; including acute and specialty care in both midwifery and nursing. Our Clinical Fellowship Program is open to students in the following courses:
- Deakin University
- Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Midwifery (dual degree)
- Monash University
- Bachelor of Nursing
- Swinburne University of Technology
- Bachelor of Nursing
- Diploma of Nursing
Our Collaborative Clinical learning program provides a focused learning experience for Bachelor of Nursing students at Deakin University. Nursing Fellowship participants in this model undertake all of their clinical subjects at Eastern Health sites. Seminar and simulation sessions, consisting of Deakin content, are taught by Eastern Health Clinical Nurse Educators utilising local equipment, policies and procedures. All nursing placements are undertaken at Eastern Health sites and include; acute and specialty care, Mental Health and Community Services.

Health Assistants in Nursing
Eastern Health employs Health Assistants in nursing in our wards across the health service. Health Assistants work alongside our nursing teams to support patients and their families with their basic care. Vacant positions are advertised on our recruitment platform eh.mercury.com.au

Support for Nurses and Midwives
Nurse & Midwife Support (NM Support) is a national telephone and online service that provides confidential advice to nurses and midwives about their health and wellbeing. The service also offers support to nursing and midwifery students, educators, employers and concerned family members. Early Career Nurse Program
The Early Career Nurse Program (ECN) enables recently qualified Registered Nurses who have not undertaken a Graduate Nurse Program an opportunity to enter the Eastern Health nursing workforce in a supported program.
- Are you recently qualified?
- Missed out on a Graduate Nurse Program?
- Registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia?
- Keen to improve your confidence, skills and knowledge in a supported program in the hospital environment?
- Keen to work for a leading public health service?
Registered Nurses who are eligible for this program meet all three of the following criteria:
- You have qualified and registered with AHPRA in the last 3 years and have been working on a fixed term, part time or full time basis.
- You have not been accepted into and completed a formal Graduate Nurse Program.
- You will have full working rights in Australia at the commencement of the ECN program.
Acute nursing experience is viewed favourably but not essential. Perhaps you have been working in subacute or aged care, or doing some agency nursing - we can offer you a supported pathway into nursing at Eastern Health with our friendly teams in our award winning health service.
You will benefit from a structured, comprehensive induction program, regular study days, clinical assessments and regular feedback.
