Disability Action Plan 2019-2022

Eastern Health supports the diversity of our staff, volunteers, patients and their families, and our communities.

Our aim is to identify and adopt inclusive practices and become more responsive to the health and wellbeing needs of people with a disability.

It is not just disability itself that makes life difficult, it is the barriers that society imposes because of disability – barriers that are physical, technical or attitudinal, that deny people access to services and community participation.

Eastern Health is committed to identifying, addressing and eliminating barriers to ensure our organisation is accessible, has a welcoming attitude, and has staff who are informed about disability.

Disability can be:

  • physical impairment e.g. spinal cord injuries
  • sensory impairment e.g. deaf
  • intellection and cognitive impairment e.g. dementia
  • psychiatric impairment e.g. clinical depression
