Community Clinics at Box Hill, Ringwood, Ferntree Gully and Lilydale
Most CYMHS clients are seen in one of our community clinics. Important people in our clients’ lives, such as parents, carers and siblings, are also invited to be involved. The community clinics are staffed by multidisciplinary mental health clinicians and provide a comprehensive range of multimodal and evidence based, recovery oriented, assessment and treatment approaches that include family therapy, parent work, a range of individual therapies and group therapy. Often we also liaise with the school and other involved agencies to assist with our client’s school experience and to enhance the coordination of care across agencies.

The CYMHS Specialist Child Team accepts referral of infants and children 0 -12 years of age and their families with complex mental health presentations. The Specialist Child Team provides a comprehensive assessment and evidence based treatment including working collaboratively and supporting the families and /or carers. This team is multidisciplinary and includes social workers, family therapist, occupational therapists, psychologists, consultant child psychiatrist, speech therapist, neuropsychologist, teacher (Avenues Education).
This team aims to improve access to services for children under the age of 12 and to improve the outcomes of children who have experienced trauma and mental health difficulties. The team offers a range of therapies including family therapy, parent work, and a range of individual therapies. The team also works closely and collaboratively with schools and other support services that may be involved in the child’s care. The team also offers primary and secondary consultations to families and services working with the child prior to a formal referral being made to the service.
Intensive Mobile Treatment Team
The Intensive Mobile Treatment Team (IMTT) is an intensive outreach service for young people in our community. The multidisciplinary IMTT mental health clinicians provide a comprehensive range of multimodal and evidence based, recovery oriented, assessment and treatment approaches. IMTT work closely with the service system around the young person to enhance the coordination of care across agencies. IMTT also work hard to ensure that the people in their clients’ lives who make decisions about them, are mindful of a young person’s mental health.
Early Psychosis Teams
There are two early psychosis teams, one at Ringwood East and the other at Box Hill. They see young people aged 0-25 for early treatment and support with psychosis.
The early psychosis teams provide an evidence based treatment program tailored to individuals which includes case management, medication, psychological therapies, social, educational and employment support and family work. Young people can be seen at home or in the clinics. Treatment aims to support young people’s recovery including managing symptoms, improving functioning and promoting general wellbeing. Families and other support people in the young person’s life can be involved in care with the young person’s consent.
Groupworx Adolescent Day Program at RingwoodThe Day Program for young people 13 to 17 years of age provides an opportunity to attend a program three days a week during school term with a group of young people to develop their coping and social skills, assisting toward re-engagement in school/vocational activities. The program is staffed by both mental health clinicians and Avenues Education teachers, offering young people both a therapeutic and an educational focus during the program. Young people accepted onto the Groupworx Program must be working with one of our community teams.
